Whilst admittedly he is not a relation, of three time Melbourne Cup winning jockey Damien Oliver, it turned out to be a lucky omen to have an Oliver (Josh) aboard Red Magic for the final race on the card at Eagle Farm on Cup Day. Throughout his racing career Red Magic has been notoriously unlucky drawing awkward outside barriers. This preparation alone he has drawn the outside barrier twice which resulted in two placings out of three runs. On Melbourne Cup day his luck finally changed and he scored the inside barrier. Quick out of the gates he settled just off the pace before capitalising on a sneaky rails run to score a convincing 1.3 lengths win for connections.
