The four yearlings we selected at the Magic Millions January yearling sale, have been broken in and are enjoying a short spell, before they come into work at Falvelon Lodge.  We drove up to see them recently and were really impressed with how well they have coped with the breaking in process.

The weather hasn’t been great of late and the constant rain has really disrupted the preparation of many of our horses.  Unless the horse can handle the heavy tracks you can often do more harm than good running them on this surface.  They are much more likely to strain ligaments and tear muscles slipping in the wet so hopefully we will start to see some nice weather soon.

Quite a few of our two year olds are getting ready to have their first start, so it is going to be an exciting time for the stable over the next couple of months.

Once again we will be heading to Sydney for the Inglis Easter Yearling Sales.  In our opinion this year’s catalogue is one of the very best.  We have spent countless hours studying the pedigree pages and doing statistical research and as a result we have a very long list of horses to inspect.

The pedigree page will only tell us what the horses should look like, the real test, is in the inspection of the yearlings.  As a guide Danny likes to look at the horses several times before putting them on the short list.  Once on the short list we ask our vet to inspect the X-Ray records and in some instances examine the horse.

Our aim remains to purchase horses that can successfully compete at home and are talented enough to travel interstate or perhaps even overseas.
