We were absolutely delighted with the run of the galant mare Anna Lizzie to come from the extreme outside barrier to run a close second in the Fillies and Mares race yesterday at the Magic Millions. Prior to the barrier draw Danny had been very pleased with the progress of the mare and felt confident she would be hard to beat. When Anna Lizzie drew barrier 19 there was a collective groan and air of disappointment felt by all connected with the lovely mare. However yesterday wearing the red with white band and black cap Bougoure family colours (made famous by the champion Strawberry Road) Glen Colless piloted her brilliantly and she tried her heart out to the line to be beaten by only 0.7 of a length.
We were not so lucky though, when by 7am yesterday we knew there were no scratchings, so we just missed out on getting into the Magic Millions 2YO Classic with the flashy chestnut filly Flamenco Girl. It was a big ask to get an October foal ready for the big race in January and a credit to Danny and the Falvelon Lodge team that he was able to have her up and stakes placed so early in her career. Perhaps if the weather been a little drier in the lead up races she would have made the field. The concellation was that the eventual winner Le Chef is the full brother to Louisiana Rouge who we purchased for clients three years ago. Having a full brother take out the $1.4M prizemoney only adds to her value as a future broodmare.
