As a racehorse trainer you don’t get a lot of time off and in Danny’s case he hadn’t taken a holiday for nearly 30 years. So off we headed overseas but still with a watchful eye on what was happening with the horses at home.
It was the middle of the night as we watched Kirin’s Lad put in a fantastic run to win at the Sunshine Coast with Tiffani Brooker aboard. The other hotel guests must have been scratching their heads wondering what was going on as we screamed and cheered at the top of their lungs as Kirin’s Lad (affectionately nicknamed Chester by his breeder) fought hard for his win.
Leading apprentice, Tiffani Brooker, had confidently declared the previous start that Kirin’s Lad would win next time out and she rode him a treat. All of Tiffani’s “eye of the tiger” determination was evident, as she battled down the Caloundra straight with one other, leaving the rest of the field lengths behind.
Sole owner Brian, was naturally ecstatic, that his boy got home and his grin in the photo’s was clearly from ear to ear. It is a great thrill getting wins for owners who love their horses as much as those of us who care for them day to day.
